Canadian Wildfire Smoke Drifting Through
Smoke from distant Canadian wildfires drifts across a calm inland lake on Drummond Island, Michigan. The haze softens the shoreline and small islands, turning the midsummer landscape into a layered scene of silhouettes and still water. For a brief time, smoke carried from faraway fires changed the character of a familiar lake view.

This is one of my favorite photographs of 2023, and easily my favorite of any sunset photo I’ve taken

Late one evening I was out hunting the Northern Lights. I was close enough to the quarry to hear the Saginaw was still loading at the quarry dock. I decided to run over and toss the drone into the air and see if I could get some good footage of the ship loading up on dolomite. This is my first try at night photography with the drone, and I’m really happy with the results!
